Firegirl - Chapter 1-5

Read chapters 1-5, then answer the following questions in your comment. Remember to respond to someone else's comments as well. Remember to add your own opinions, feelings, or questions.

1. It's obvious Tom has a crush on Courtney because he frequently daydreams about saving her life. Why do you think Tom imagines he is a superhero, and what do you think of his "small powers" he chooses for himself? Why do you think he chose "small powers"?
2. If you could choose a superpower, what would it be and why? Would you choose small powers?
3. What do you think of Tom's bestfriend Jeff? What character trait would you use to describe him & why? Support your answer with text evidence.
4. What do you think of Mrs. Tracey's plan to hold an election for class president? Would you run for class president?
5. Mrs. Tracy ends the chapter 5 (pg.28) saying "There's something you need to know about Jessica..." What do you think she means? **If you have read ahead, please don't answer this question.
6. Do Tom's classroom and classmates seem similar to our class? Why or why not.

1. I think that Tom uses his "small powers" when he imagines saving Courtney because he at least wants it to be a LITTLE realistic.
2. If I was going to choose a "small power", then I would want to be really strong- that could really help if your carrying something.
3. I think Jeff is pretty carefree. In the book it said that Jeff had pink spots in his shirt, so he probably doesn't care about what he wears. Plus, the book never said anything about Jeff being stressed or whatever.
4. I LOVE Mrs. Tracey's plan! That would be so awesome if WE could run for class president! I would really like to run for class president because I know lots of kids that don't like some things at school- and maybe I could change that!
5. I seriously don't know what Mrs. Tracey means by that, but I think that Jessica has some kind of problem. So maybe Mrs. Tracy is telling them about that so the students will be careful with Jessica.
6. Yes. There's the popular kids, the kids that want attention, the normal kids... just like any other kids.
