Looking at the cover of this book I thought either the cat or the hamster will be the main character. It turns out Humphrey is a class hamster. I thought I wonder what my class hermit crabs must have thought of my class and students!
Humphrey the hamster is the best class pet ever, but don't tell him. He thinks he's a student. His best friends are the kids in Mrs. Brisbane's class...kids like Raise-Your-Hand-Heidi, Wait-for-the-Bell-Garth, and Pay-Attention-Art-Pastel. Unfortunately, they can't understand Humphrey's words that sound like squeaks to them, but they seem to know what he means. Humphrey's best friend is Og, the frog who lives in the tank next door to him.
A lot of things surprise Humphrey. He worries about his friend who cleans his room at night after he starts saying words he can't understand, so he's pretty sure that aliens have taken him and one stayed in his place. Will Humphrey eat the veggies he gives him? Absolutely not!
Most of all, Humphrey and Mrs. Brisbane worry about the students who can't follow the rules. What will they do to help them be happy and successful?
